A longer galvanized run also means more surface area for corrosion to work on, so pressure loss tends to show up here a little earlier in a home's life than it does on a shorter run across town.

We measured the run from the meter, found it adequate for the unit size needed, and had it mounted and inspected in a day. Repeat backups had everyone expecting roots. The camera showed a fully collapsed section about twelve feet out, likely from decades of soil settling over the original clay pipe.
