Accessibility Statement

We build this site to be usable by everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, or reduced motion. Here is where we stand, and how to tell us when we fall short.

Accessibility is part of doing the job right. If any part of this site gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it. Call (916) 769-2116 or email access@dhsplumbing.ca.

01Our commitment

We want every visitor to be able to read our pages, use the forms, and reach us, whatever device or assistive technology they use. Accessibility is treated as a requirement in this build, not an afterthought.

02Conformance target

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, at level AA. That target covers contrast, keyboard access, focus visibility, target size, motion, and the newer 2.2 success criteria.

03Measures in place

These are already true of the system, not aspirations.

  • Verified contrast. Text and background pairs are checked against a fixed palette. Body ink on the paper ground is 14.4 to 1. The copper accent is used for non-text and large text only on light grounds, never for small body copy.
  • Focus is never removed. Every focusable element shows a 2px copper outline at a 2px offset. Focus is visible for keyboard users and stays put.
  • Keyboard operable. The navigation, mobile drawer, chat, before/after slider, service-area map, and every form work with a keyboard alone. The slider also responds to arrow keys, Home, and End. The drawer and the mobile chat sheet trap focus while open and return it to the trigger on close.
  • Reduced motion respected. With the system setting for reduced motion on, the hero wipe, the parallax, and all scroll reveals are switched off, and only short state-feedback transitions remain.
  • Comfortable targets. Interactive targets use a 44 by 44 pixel floor, which exceeds the 2.2 minimum of 24 by 24 pixels, with spacing so nearby controls are not easy to hit by mistake.
  • Semantic structure. One heading-one per page, headings in order, real buttons and links, landmark regions, and a skip link that appears on focus.
  • Forms are labeled. Every field has a visible label, never a placeholder standing in for one. Errors sit beneath the field, are announced politely, and the first invalid field takes focus on a failed submit. Required fields are marked in words.
  • Never color alone. Status is shown with a word as well as a color. Open or closed shows a dot and the words. Form errors show text as well as red.
  • Descriptive alt text. Meaningful images carry alt text in plain language. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
  • Zoom. Pages stay usable at 200 percent zoom on a 1280 pixel screen with no sideways scrolling and no clipped content.

04How we test

We check every template with axe DevTools, then do a full keyboard-only pass, then a screen reader pass with VoiceOver on iOS and NVDA on Windows. We rely on real testing because automated tools catch only about a third of issues on their own.

05Known limitations

We would rather name the gaps than claim there are none.

  • This is an in-progress prototype. Several pages in the site map are not built yet, so they have not been tested.
  • Some images are placeholders sourced from a stock library. Final photography will carry alt text written in our own voice.
  • If we later add a third-party booking or review tool, its accessibility is partly outside our control. We will test any embed before it ships and choose accessible options where they exist.
  • We have not yet completed a full screen reader pass on every template, since not every template exists. We finish that before launch.

If you hit a barrier we have not listed, please tell us. Real reports are the fastest way to find what testing misses.

06Feedback and contact

If something on this site is hard to use, or you need information in another format, contact us and we will help and will provide the content another way.

We aim to reply within two business days. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will work through it with you.

07Compatibility

The site is built for current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, with the assistive technology built into those platforms. Older browsers may show a simpler version of some features, but the content and the ways to reach us stay available.
